Biomethane

  • Biomethane gas is adjusted to be comparable with the specifications technical parameters of natural gas in accordance with the definition of § 2. 1 point. f) Act. 309/2009 Coll on the promotion of renewable energy sources and high-efficiency cogeneration and on amendments to certain laws.

Advantages of biomethane

  • The problem of most biogas plants is use waste heat, which, together with electricity generated by the combustion of biogas cogeneration units. An alternative treatment is therefore biogas to biomethane. Most promising and the most common way of using biomethane is clean and its subsequent injection into the natural gas distribution network. Distribution through the distribution network eliminates the need for the localization of biomethane station close to the final consumer of heat. Slovakia has the best conditions for the production of biomethane in the EU, it is the second country in Europe  (33,000 km) and the average farm size is 550 ha, which is about 1500% more than the EU average, so obtaining biomass is greatly facilitated. Starting material is mostly corn silage, manure or organic sludge from which the biogas produced in the digester. Volume fermenters ranging from one cubic meter (domestic fermenter) to several thousand m3 (large farms). Feedstock in the fermenter digested from 10 days to several weeks, depending on the composition and ambient temperature. Although bacteria in the decomposition of organic matter itself creates heat in our climate in the winter, this heat is not sufficient, and therefore it is necessary to heat the fermenter external sources - external heat source. Temperature at which the digestion takes place in a fermentor optimally should not fall below 35 ° C. Biogas is pumped from the fermenter, stored in a gas holder.
